The Shell Museum at Glanford
Just outside Holt in Norfolk is one of the world's sweetest, and possibly smallest, museums. Crammed full with shells, corals, fossils and birds eggs from all corners of the globe.
Mudlarking on the shores of the Thames
Look for fragments of London's discarded clay smoking pipes that litter the beaches of the Thames. Sold pre-filled with tobacco, they were tossed away like cigarette butts once smoked. Most are 18th and 19th century, but some date back to the Elizabethan era. The best are beautifully carved, decorated and shaped. Unbroken bowls are most precious to find.
